The Absurdity of Philistinism

It is more difficult to conceal philistinism toward God than to receive forgiveness for the same.

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways." [This is] the LORD's declaration. "For as heaven is higher than earth, so My ways are higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9.

A part of the Cultural War that we are witnessing in the United States and around the World is an attempt to remove the influence of Christianity. Of course, this is a battle that has been raging from the moment that God declared, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased." Matthew 3:17.

However, this battle has been engaged from the moment that Satan enticed Eve to eat of the fruit from the tree in the middle of the Garden. ”When the woman (Eve) saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.” Genesis 3:6.

The truth lies in the absurdity that Humanism has taken up the battle against God, not Christianity. True enough, a Humanist is unable to understand that by persecuting the Christian movement he is actually engaging himself against Almighty God. The humor of this reminds us of the statement by Dr. Bruce Banner who becomes the Incredible Hulk when angered, “You will not like me when I am angry.”

You will see, you will rejoice, and you will flourish like grass; then the LORD's power will be revealed to His servants, but He will show His wrath against His enemies. Look, the LORD will come with fire — His chariots are like the whirlwind — to execute His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire. For the LORD will execute judgment on all flesh with His fiery sword, and many will be slain by the LORD. Isaiah 66:14-16.

In the end, God wins and the sinner who stands to offend Him by persecuting His People will burn in Hell. Jonathan Edwards said it best in his famous sermon, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,

“The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect, over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked; his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire; he is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in his sight; you are ten thousand times so abominable in his eyes as the most hateful venomous serpent is in ours. You have offended him infinitely more than ever a stubborn rebel did his prince: and yet 'tis nothing but his hand that holds you from falling into the fire every moment; 'tis to be ascribed to nothing else, that you did not go to hell the last night; that you was suffered to awake again in this world, after you closed your eyes to sleep: and there is no other reason to be given why you have not dropped into hell since you arose in the morning, but that God's hand has held you up; there is no other reason to be given why you han't gone to hell since you have sat here in the house of God, provoking his pure eyes by your sinful wicked manner of attending his solemn worship: yea, there is nothing else that is to be given as a reason why you don't this very moment drop down into hell.”

The Culture War is what it is, a comma in the times of history, and a lost battle that God won at the Cross of Calvary. Calvary is the snare set for the lost, those who are at war with the God of Heaven, for they are unable to understand because of the darkness of their hearts. OH, the absurdity of Philistinism.

"I set a snare for you and you were also caught, O Babylon, While you yourself were not aware; You have been found and also seized Because you have engaged in conflict with the LORD." The LORD has opened His armory And has brought forth the weapons of His indignation, For it is a work of the Lord GOD of hosts In the land of the Chaldeans. Isaiah 50:24-25.
