The Difficulty of Being Christian

Living the Christian life is very much like walking into a cornfield maze……it is very easy to make a wrong turn….the difference being that God has given every Believer directions.

"'So the LORD'S anger burned in that day, and He swore, saying, 'None of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob; for they did not follow Me fully, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have followed the LORD fully.'" Exodus 32:10-12.

“…for they did not follow me fully….” This is the standard problem among people everywhere, everyday, they do not know two very important things:
1. They do not know Who to follow
2. They refuse to follow if they know Who to follow

This is the difficulty of life in Christ. Far too often we stress ‘becoming’ rather than the task of ‘being’. We run around attempting to round up people to become Christian ‘easily and freely’ but do not instruct the issues of the difficulties that lie ahead. I would say to everyone that becoming a Believer in Jesus Christ is NOT as easy as one would be lead to believe.

Christ issues the warning in John 8:31-32,
So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

Far too many overly zealous Evangelicals issue the ‘freely given’ without the insistence of ‘fully following.’ For this reason alone there are, I would guess, literally millions of folks who have walked triumphantly down a church aisle somewhere to receive the free gift without understanding that there are rules that must be followed. It is the following that they find difficult.

My guess is that every Believer knows some of those who are not Believers because they could not follow.
